Pearl Jewelry Care Tips
Pearls are generally white or cream in color, but the this can vary according to the color of nacre in the various species of mollusk used. Pearls can be black or various shades of pastel. You may also find they can be dyed yellow, green, blue, brown, pink and purple. They are very soft and made of calcium carbonate.

Saltwater pearls grow within pearl oysters which live in tropical oceans. Saltwater pearl oysters are usually cultivated in protected lagoons. The three main types of saltwater pearls are Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian.

Pearls are found in many shapes like rice-shaped, round, pear-shaped, button-shaped, or irregular (baroque). Its subtle, gentle shine and softness are the best qualities of the pearl, making it a traditional gift for brides on their wedding day.

Care tips for your pearl jewelry
- Hair spray, vinegar, perfume, perspiration and some cosmetics should not be used on or while wearing pearl jewelry.
- Avoid detergents, baking soda and ammonia-based cleaners.
- Never clean pearls in ultrasonic cleaners. Never steam clean pearls.
- Do not use toothbrushes, scouring pads or abrasive materials. Pearls can be washed in mild soapy water, such as Ivory soap, and cleaned with a soft cloth.
- Do not store pearls where they might rub against harder substances.
- Pearls should not be stored near heaters or in direct sunlight.
- You should keep pearls in individual flannel/silk bags, satin-lined jewel box.
- To save the brilliance of your pearls try polishing them with a few drops of olive oil.
